Denver · CO · Independent

Built-in Sub-Zero refrigeration, diagnosed properly the first time.

Columns, undercounter cabinets, clear-ice makers and wine storage across Cherry Creek, Washington Park, Highland and Capitol Hill. Sealed-system work, control diagnostics and a price agreed before anything comes apart.

Built-in refrigerator in oak cabinetry with the upper grille hinged open on the machine compartment, a multimeter, brush and nut drivers on a blanket over the door
A grille off and a condenser brushed out is often the whole repair — and the commonest thing we find behind a warm cabinet.

One visit

Before and after, on the same call

Most Sub-Zero faults in Denver are a measured circuit and a single component — not a new appliance. Here is what the two halves of a visit actually look like.

Open lower access panel exposing a bank of relays and wiring, with replacement parts still bagged on the floor beside nut drivers and a multimeter

Before

The fault is found, then the parts are staged

Panels come off, the suspect circuit is measured rather than guessed at, and the parts that job needs are laid out before anything is disturbed. If a part has to be ordered against your serial number, you know at this point — not after the cabinet is apart.

Replacement fan motor being fitted into the lower bay of a built-in unit, the removed motor and its blade on the floor alongside

After

The failed part is out and the new one is in

The replacement goes in, the cabinet is brought back into range and watched through a full cycle, and the grille, drawer or panel-ready front goes back the way it came off. Nothing is left for you to refit.

What it costs

One fixed number, a band for the rest.

The service call is published because it never changes, and every common repair carries a band because you should see a range before anyone opens the cabinet. What decides where inside a band your unit lands is in the table.

$89

Flat service call in Denver. Covers the trip and the full diagnosis, and it is credited against the repair when you approve the work.

Every repair band, printed as a range, sits on each repair page — start with refrigerator repair.

What decides a Sub-Zero repair total
Factor What it does to the total Weight
Service call Flat, quoted up front, covers the visit and the diagnosis. Credited in full against the repair when you approve it. Fixed
Which circuit failed A fan motor, thermistor or defrost heater is a parts-level job. Sealed-system work means recovery, brazing and a measured recharge, and it sits at the top of the range. Largest single factor
The part Control boards and compressors for built-in columns cost multiples of a fan motor or a gasket. We give you the part price before it is ordered. Varies by model
Access A freestanding unit takes minutes to get behind. A panel-ready column built into cabinetry, or a unit up two flights in a converted Capitol Hill mansion, adds labour time. Adds labour
One visit or two If the failed part is on the van you pay one visit. If it has to be ordered against your serial number, the return trip is not charged again. No second call fee

What we repair

Four cabinets, four different failure patterns

Built-in Sub-Zero equipment does not fail like a freestanding appliance. Each of these has its own weak points, and knowing which one you have decides what rides on the van.

Where we work

Four Denver neighbourhoods on one route

These four are the core round, which is why they get the earliest slots. Kitchens differ street by street here — a 1920s walkup and a new row home need different approaches to getting a column out and back.

Outside these? Call anyway. Most of central Denver falls inside the same round, and we will tell you straight when an address does not.

Questions we get

Asked on the phone most days

How quickly can someone look at a Sub-Zero in Denver?

Cherry Creek, Washington Park, Highland and Capitol Hill are our core route, so a call placed in the morning usually gets a slot that afternoon or the next morning. Technicians work 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, seven days, and the phone is answered 24/7 — a unit that fails at midnight can be booked before the crew starts.

The fresh food side is warm but the freezer is still cold. Is that the compressor?

Usually not. A built-in Sub-Zero runs two separate cooling circuits, and one side warming while the other holds points at that side only: its evaporator fan, a defrost fault on that circuit, or a damper stuck shut. Those are parts-level repairs. A dead compressor takes both sides with it on a single-system unit, and neither side recovers.

Does Denver air actually change how these units behave?

It does, in two ways we see constantly. Dry air masks a drain problem until meltwater shows up under the drawers rather than as frost, and spring wind plus cottonwood fluff loads a condenser faster here than in a coastal city. A mile of altitude does not bother the sealed system, but a condenser that cannot breathe raises head pressure and shortens compressor life.

What does the visit cost, and what happens to that fee?

A $89 service call covers the trip and the full diagnosis, and it is credited against the repair if you approve the work. You get the price for the repair itself before anything is dismantled, so nothing is opened up on an unknown number.

Do you work on integrated columns and panel-ready installations?

Yes — 600 and 700 series built-ins, integrated refrigerator and freezer columns, undercounter units, clear-ice makers and wine storage. Panel-ready cabinets come out and go back without marking the joinery, which matters in the tight galley kitchens and third-floor walkups around Capitol Hill.

Which parts are on the van and which have to be ordered?

Evaporator and condenser fan motors, defrost heaters, thermistors, dampers, door gaskets, water inlet valves and the control boards for the common model families ride with the technician. Sealed-system components and cosmetic panels are ordered against your model and serial number, because guessing a part on a built-in wastes a second visit.

  • Freezer half of our paired columns drifted into the teens, and softening ice cream was the first clue. Bad evaporator fan bearing, swapped from parts on his van, and he rechecked the temperature before leaving.

    Shane O.Cherry Creek

  • The bin filled with one solid slab instead of cubes, and the ice smelled like the freezer. Harvest arm was out of adjustment and the water filter was ancient. Sorted in one call.

    Dexter B.Highland

  • Ours is built into an old chimney chase with almost no clearance, and the wine cooler kept tripping its alarm. Overheating for lack of airflow. He improved the venting and cleaned the condenser.

What fails on which cabinet

Knowing the family narrows the fault before anyone opens a door. If you can read the model and serial off the plate — inside the fresh-food door, top left on most built-ins — the call gets shorter.

Sub-Zero equipment we are called to in Denver
Family Typical units What brings us out
600 series built-in BI-36U, BI-42SD, BI-30UFD Fresh food drifting warm with the freezer unaffected — evaporator fan or defrost sensor on the fresh-food circuit. Drain lines block with dust and show up as water under the crispers.
700 series columns Paired refrigerator and freezer columns, 736TCI One column of a pair out of range while the other holds. Dampers, fan bearings and condenser fans dominate; the two cabinets have separate sealed systems, so a fault rarely crosses over.
Classic and PRO built-ins 648, 648PRO Start relays and condenser fans on units that have run a decade or more. Compressors that never rest between cycles usually mean a loaded condenser, not a tired compressor.
Undercounter refrigeration UC-24R, undercounter freezer drawers Small cabinet, small condenser, no margin. Cottonwood fluff and pet hair choke it in a season, and drawer drain heaters fail into a solid block of ice.
Ice makers UC-15I, IT-30CIID, 700BCI, clear-ice modules Hollow or cloudy cubes from a starved fill valve; a slab instead of cubes from a harvest arm out of adjustment; scale narrowing the fill tube after years on Denver water.
Wine storage 315, 424, 427, 450 series, integrated wine columns One zone reading several degrees off the display — usually a drifted thermistor, not a failed compressor. Condensation inside the glass points at the seal or a stalled circulation fan.
